The songs this album has are incredible. The lyrics to each song give it such a strong meaning. It's amazing to how much passion each song has both Joy and John, their voices are beautiful together. I'm completely in love with this album. They're really great and passionate writers.

The Civil Wars may be one of the best country duets of all time after this absolutely beautiful album.
  • Better than the self titled

Fantastic album, still the best by the Civil Wars. The 2013 self titled album felt too commercialized, lacked any heart or soul. Get back to your roots, don’t be another group to fall to your knees at the record company throne.

These songs, there's nothing on radio alike. It's unique. Powerful. Hauntingly beautiful, specially when they harmonize together like "Barton Hallow", "Poison & Wine", "20 years"... I dare anyone say they're not amazing. Powerful music like this comes once in a lifetime sometimes, and to me... They're IT. I'll always be a fan and hopefully they'll continue as a combo. They're amazing. Their songs are amazing and powerful. Meaningful lyrics, instead of trash we hear on radio.. Love them.

I'm out of words...I don't know what to say. The songs were realistic, ugly and beautiful all rolled into one. They were so honest and the simplicity of the songs is what astounded me. Their voices mix together so perfectly and the emotions in their voices, it made me believe in them. Thank you for creating such a great album.
